TWO MONTHS BEFORE
Sort and Purge: go through every room, decide what to keep and what to get rid of.
Start investigating possible moving companies (if required).
Organize school records, arrange for transfer of records to new school.
Make provisions for your pets, transfer records to the new vet if changing clinic.
Contact Insurance provider, update your home insurance policy with new address and details.
Notify banks, credit card companies, cell phone and magazine subscriptions of new address.
Start organizing packing supplies: tape, boxes, markers, etc.
ONE MONTH BEFORE
Book your moving company and sign contract or arrange for truck rental
Schedule disconnection/connection of utilities of old and new property: Telephone, Internet, Cable, Water, Gas, Electricity, Water Heater Rental (if applicable).
Fill out "change of address" form with Canada Post (online or at postal outlet).
TWO WEEKS BEFORE
Call Lawyer to schedule a date and time to sign paperwork.
Notify newsletters/newspapers of your move.
Return all borrowed belongings (library books, movies, etc.)
Take furniture, climbing frames, and garden furniture apart where possible.
Send change of address note to family and friends.
Continue packing and cleaning as you go.
Compile a package of appliance warranties/instructions etc for use by new homeowners.
Book a day off work and arrange for a babysitter to watch the kids on moving day.
A FEW DAYS BEFORE
Defrost the refrigerator/freezer and clean the oven.
Make a schedule/action plan for moving day.
Set aside fresh towels/linens/clothing/medications to be used on moving day and at new house.
Set aside boxes and items that you're moving yourself.
CONGRATULATIONS, NOW THAT YOU'RE IN....
Ensure that all appliances and fixtures are in working order
Change batteries is all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Enquire about garbage and recycling schedules.
Introduce yourself to the neighbours!
